LG UH8500 vs UH7700 (65UH8500 vs 65UH7700; 60UH8500 vs 60UH7700; 55UH8500 vs 55UH7700)

The UH8500 and UH7700, being part of the new LG Super UHD range of 4K TVs, have identical picture quality. One of the key features they have in common is the Quantum Display which adds a layer of quantum dots between the backlight and the LCD panel. Quantum dots are light-emitting nanocrystals that operate on the principle of absorbing light from the LEDs and subsequently converting it to light of a narrow spectral width, depending on their size. Thus, the backlight consists of pure blue, and thanks to the quantum dots - pure red and pure green which makes it perfectly optimized for the color filters. As a result, both wider color gamut and brighter image are possible.

The UH8500 features Cinema Screen design with slender side and top bezels for minimal distraction from the picture. Although the UH7700 doesn't use the Cinema Screen design its bezels are still relatively thin and they won't pose too much distraction from the content you're watching to. On that subject, you can enjoy HDR (High Dynamic Range) movies and TV series on the UH8500 as well as the UH7700 since they are equipped with HDR Super which supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats. For watching Dobly Vision content, though, you might need to update the firmware on your TV first. In order to deliver deeper black levels and extra brightness needed for HDR content, both series utilize local dimming and Ultra Luminance for dimming the LEDs corresponding to the dark areas and boosting peak brightness in the bright regions, respectively.

The UH8500 supports the passive 3D format and includes 2 pairs of passive 3D glasses. The UF7700, on the other hand, omits the 3D technology. The UH8500 has a 2.2 channel speaker system with the total audio power output being 40 Watts with the exception of the 75-Inch model which has 60 Watts (woofer: 20 watts) of sound output. The UH7700 has a 2 channel speaker system and 20 watts of audio power. The sound system on both series has been designed in collaboration with harman/kardon. They also have decoders for both Dolby Digital and DTS, in addition to providing you with the option to wirelessly connect your LG speaker systems to the TV thanks to the Wireless Sound Sync feature.

The smart TV platform is Web OS 3.0 on both series meaning they have the same features such as: Magic Zoom, Magic Mobile Connection, Universal Control Capability and Natural Voice Recognition. The motion-sensing Magic remote is included with the UH8500 and UH7700 for easier navigation and browsing by the means of a simple point-and-click.

There are 3 HDMI (HDCP 2.2 compatible) and 3 USB ports on either model of the two series. 4:4:4 chroma at 4K@60Hz is supported but you need to set "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color" to "On" - otherwise 4k @ 60Hz is limited to 4:2:0 8-bit color.

    1. The UH7700 supports 4:4:4 at either 1080P or 4K @ 60Hz by setting the input to PC and "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color" to On, respectively. The UH7707 is the European version of the UH7700 so they should be identical but I cannot be absolutely sure if that's indeed the case.

  2. Sorry... I spent a week of research to resolve this problem and ended up here.
this is for someone who uses TV as PC monitor.

I bought LG UH7700 about a week ago.
and tried everything to pop 4:4:4 , 4K@60hz on my TV.
it is only possible with either 4K@30hz, or 1080p@60hz.
    otherwise 4K@60hz 4:2:0.
of course I set those "PC input" and "UHD Deep Color"
using EVGA geforce 1080 FTW, hdmi cable connection (directly from graphics card to hdmi port1)

    1. What's your HDMI cable length? Anyway, please try disabling Digital Audio for HDMI from Nvidia control panel, and see if that works.

  3. please help me out here.

I have UH7700 (60") connected to EVGA geforce 1080 FTW, running windows 10 pro using amazon basic (most recent) hdmi cable(the reviewers confirmed 4:4:4: 4k @ 60hz for the cable).

    I can only reach 4:4:4 with 4k@30hz, or 1080p@60hz.
4k@60hz has only 4:2:0 on nvidia control panel.

Of course I did set "PC input" and "hdmi ultra hd deep color".
(also did disabled all other fancy features in picture settings)

how did you get 4:4:4: @60 hz?
